OCT 6 - EDWARDS: The Food Recuse Express Thanks You for Your Food Donations

The Food Recuse Express - Backpack program tries to provide a full weekend werth of meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner for Saturday & Sunday) for local elementary school students in Eagle County Schools. Students who participate in this program are in the Federal lunch program
(free/reduced lunch). The majority of the kids fed are at very high risk of not having enough food for the weekend.  Most of the kids live below the poverty line. The Backpack program was a pilot program for one month at Avon Elementary School in 2009 (10 kids/week for 5 weeks), and it was a huge success. Now we feed 50 kids, which was equivalent to 300 meals each week.
Foods needed: macaroni & cheese, canned fruit, canned vegetables, pasta, canned beans, cereal bars, rice, juice boxes, & canned soups, Ramen Noodle cup-a-soups.

How can you help?
If you would like to sponsor a child but would like to opt out of going shopping, the cost for one month is (approximately) $40.00 and for one school year is (approximately) $300.00.
