San Felipe Chapter Creates the Board of Directors

On Wednesday, October 23, the Blues Against Hunger Society held the first public meeting at El Dorado Ranch Pavilion, in San Felipe to introduce the organizations board of directors and to create the new board for the San Felipe Chapter. The meeting was a great success and the new board was selected with the first official board meeting scheduled for November 4th at 11AM.
The BAHS San Felipe Chapter Directors:
  • Charlie Martin, Chapter Director
  • Joyce Reid Lawrence, Chapter Treasurer
  • Marilyn Maxwell Roosen, Chapter Secretary
Chapter Fiscal Management
One of the important concerns that was discussed was the BAHS Chapter Agreement, the document that outlines the relationship between our organization and the chapter. The concerns were specifically about Article 8.3 under fiscal management.
The article states 20% of funds collected are paid to BAHS. This section needed clarification. YES, there is 20% that must be paid back to BAHS in the event the chapter is benefiting from something provided by BAHS.
The example used is if BAHS was to establish a relationship with a guitar manufacturer and secured donated guitars for the chapters to raffle each season. The chapter would pay the organization 20% of the funds raised from the donated guitar. No funds from general raffles or chapter fundraising to paid to BAHS.
Payment to Musicians
Another concern was related to musicians pay. All musicians MUST BE PAID. Our organization is Blues Against Hunger Society; this is our mission:
The Blues Against Hunger Society is a not for profit organization. Our mission is to produce live blues music events that promote the collection and distribution of non-perishable food to the hungry while supporting, promoting and preserving the blues in the communities it serves.
As stated, we preserve and promote the blues while eliminating hunger. For there to be blues, you need musicians. Our Chapters charters states base pay for artists and guests are market rate. See Article 2.6 and 2.7 under Criteria for Affiliation
In many cases, musicians offer their services for less than they would other times, some will donate their earnings back, and others will play for market value; either way it is the choice of the musician, not the organization or bandleader according to our organizations guidelines.
